Flourishing, Not Floundering
Sermon Note
[Psalm 92:1-2] A psalm. A song to be sung on the Sabbath Day. It is good to give thanks to the LORD, to sing praises to the Most High. [2] It is good to proclaim your unfailing love in the morning, your faithfulness in the evening
[Psalm 92:4-5] You thrill me, LORD, with all you have done for me! I sing for joy because of what you have done. [5] O LORD, what great works you do! And how deep are your thoughts.
Gratitude moves me from seeing my PROBLEM to seeing how God is WORKING in the middle of it.
[Psalm 92:6-7] Only a simpleton would not know, and only a fool would not understand this: [7] Though the wicked sprout like weeds and evildoers flourish, they will be destroyed forever.
The WICKED are not ROOTED in God.
[Psalm 92:12] But the godly will flourish like palm trees and grow strong like the cedars of Lebanon.
The godly don’t just SURVIVE hardship, but they PRODUCE lasting spiritual fruit.
The GODLY are strong through ADVERSITY.
[Jeremiah 17:7-8] "But blessed are those who trust in the LORD and have made the LORD their hope and confidence. [8] They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.
[Ephesians 3:16] I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit.
God’s RESOURCES and POWER are unlimited.
[Ephesians 3:17] Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God's love and keep you strong.
Trusting in God’s LOVE leads to FLOURISHING.
[Psalm 92:13] For they are transplanted to the LORD's own house. They flourish in the courts of our God. [14] Even in old age they will still produce fruit; they will remain vital and green. [15] They will declare, "The LORD is just! He is my rock! There is no evil in him!"
Staying planted in God means a LIFETIME of FRUITFUL living.
