Sometimes we ask God for more DIRECTION when what we really need is more SURRENDER.
[1 Corinthians 6:19] Don't you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself,
Don't WITHHOLD anything from the Holy Spirit.
[Ephesians 4:30 ESV] And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
We GRIEVE the Holy Spirit when we hurt the RELATIONSHIP.
[Ephesians 4:32 ESV] Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
The Holy Spirit is WORKING in me to make me more like Jesus.
[Acts 7:51] "You stubborn people! You are heathen at heart and deaf to the truth. Must you forever resist the Holy Spirit? That's what your ancestors did, and so do you!
We RESIST the Holy Spirit when we FIGHT His direction.
[1 Thessalonians 5:19 ESV] Do not quench the Spirit.
We QUENCH the Spirit when we SUPPRESS His activity.
[1 Thessalonians 5:19-21 ESV] Do not quench the Spirit. [20] Do not despise prophecies, [21] but test everything; hold fast what is good.
The Holy Spirit was not given just to make us more COMFORTABLE.
[Ephesians 5:18] Don't be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit,
[Romans 8:9c] (And remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them do not belong to him at all.)
To be filled with the Spirit is to come under His INFLUENCE and CONTROL.
[Acts 2:4] And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.
[Acts 4:31] After this prayer, the meeting place shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Then they preached the word of God with boldness.
FIRE falls on something that's been SACRIFICED.
[Romans 12:1] And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice--the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.
[Luke 11:13] So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him."
