Awakened to Serve

Sermon Notes

Jesus doesn't awaken us to just sit in SAFETY.

[Mark 10:42-45] So Jesus called them together and said, "You know that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them. [43] But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, [44] and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of everyone else. [45] For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many."

If SERVING was central for Jesus, it must be CENTRAL for us.

[Galatians 5:13] For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don't use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.

If your faith never moves you to ACTION, it’s not ALIVE.

[John 15:8] When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my Father.

FRUITFULNESS is the mark of a real disciple.

[1 Peter 4:10] God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.

God isn’t asking for PERFECTION, He’s looking for AVAILABILITY.

[Ephesians 2:10] For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

We are not just saved FROM something, we are saved FOR something.

[John 13:3-5] Jesus knew that the Father had given him authority over everything and that he had come from God and would return to God. [4] So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, [5] and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples' feet, drying them with the towel he had around him.

Before Jesus picked up the CROSS He picked up a TOWEL.
