The Holy God

Sermon Notes

God is GREATER than we think He is.

[Psalm 97:1-5] The LORD is king! Let the earth rejoice! Let the farthest coastlands be glad. [2] Dark clouds surround him. Righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne. [3] Fire spreads ahead of him and burns up all his foes. [4] His lightning flashes out across the world. The earth sees and trembles. [5] The mountains melt like wax before the LORD, before the Lord of all the earth.

Our greatest need is a NEW perspective of God's GREATNESS.

[Isaiah 6:1] It was in the year King Uzziah died that I saw the Lord. He was sitting on a lofty throne, and the train of his robe filled the Temple.

Our PERSPECTIVE shapes our life.

[Psalm 99:3] Let them praise your great and awesome name. Your name is holy!

Everything God does flows from His GOODNESS.

[Psalm 99:4] Mighty King, lover of justice, you have established fairness. You have acted with justice and righteousness throughout Israel.

Even when I don't UNDERSTAND God, I can TRUST Him.

[Psalm 98:1] A psalm. Sing a new song to the LORD, for he has done wonderful deeds. His right hand has won a mighty victory; his holy arm has shown his saving power!

When we WORSHIP God FEAR loses its power.

[Acts 16:25-26] Around midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening. [26] Suddenly, there was a massive earthquake, and the prison was shaken to its foundations. All the doors immediately flew open, and the chains of every prisoner fell off!

Fear magnifies everything NEGATIVE.

[1 Peter 1:13-16] So prepare your minds for action and exercise self-control. Put all your hope in the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world. [14] So you must live as God's obedient children. Don't slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn't know any better then. [15] But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. [16] For the Scriptures say, "You must be holy because I am holy."

The more clearly we SEE God, the more we BECOME like Him.

[2 Corinthians 3:18] So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord--who is the Spirit--makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.
