Leave It Behind

Sermon Notes

[Mark 10:46-47] Then they reached Jericho, and as Jesus and his disciples left town, a large crowd followed him. A blind beggar named Bartimaeus (son of Timaeus) was sitting beside the road. [47] When Bartimaeus heard that Jesus of Nazareth was nearby, he began to shout, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!"

Our SPIRIT can often sense what our EYES cannot.

[2 Samuel 7:16] Your house and your kingdom will continue before me for all time, and your throne will be secure forever.'"

Sometimes DESPERATION produces spiritual CLARITY.

[Mark 10:48] "Be quiet!" many of the people yelled at him. But he only shouted louder, "Son of David, have mercy on me!"

When MERCY is within reach, SILENCE is not an option.

[Mark 10:49] When Jesus heard him, he stopped and said, "Tell him to come here." So they called the blind man. "Cheer up," they said. "Come on, he's calling you!"

Jesus is still STOPPING for those who CRY out to Him.

[Psalm 34:18 NIV] The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

God is NEVER far away.

[Mark 10:50] Bartimaeus threw aside his coat, jumped up, and came to Jesus.

Faith often requires letting go before the OUTCOME is guaranteed.

[Mark 10:51-52] "What do you want me to do for you?" Jesus asked. "My rabbi," the blind man said, "I want to see!" [52] And Jesus said to him, "Go, for your faith has healed you." Instantly the man could see, and he followed Jesus down the road.

[2 Corinthians 5:17] This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!

When you encounter Jesus, your IDENTITY changes.
